How to Start a Game in WikiRace: Seat, Laptop, Countdown

Starting a round is mostly waiting, and both things that go wrong look like nothing happening. Here is the path we recorded from the lobby to your first Start and End pair.

Desk & LaptopCountdown, Not a Start ButtonFive Checks When Nothing Begins
Short answer

Five steps from the listing to a live round

Each step has something you can see. If you cannot see it, the next section says what that means.

  1. 1. Join and find a free desk. The interaction prompt only opens a laptop at an empty desk.
  2. 2. Sit, then let the laptop load. An ATTENTION notice comes first when it appears, then Loading race options….
  3. 3. Check the room line. It names mode, difficulty and clock, for example STANDARD · HARD · 3 MINUTES.
  4. 4. Let the red countdown finish. Starting game in 5 runs down without you pressing anything.
  5. 5. Read the pair, then click. Start sits left, End sits right, and the clock starts with the reveal — the End title may still be drawing for a few seconds.
The sequence

What happens between sitting down and your first click

Two recordings cover this path. The 4 October one opened a table of its own and hit the slow case; the 18 September one joined a room that was already filling and went straight to the countdown.

Step 1

Open the experience and pick a free desk

Join from the official listing and walk into the lobby room. Movement is W/A/S/D on PC and the stick on mobile; the interaction prompt that opens a laptop only appears at a desk nobody is using (read from player footage, 15 September 2026). Servers hold up to 80 racers at once, and there is no private-instance entry — the official API reports createVipServersAllowed: false when we read it on 28 October 2026.

Step 2

Sit down and let the laptop open

Taking the seat switches you to the in-game laptop. On 4 October 2026 a player who opened their own table first had to confirm an ATTENTION notice, then watched Opening your table… / Loading race options… for about twenty seconds before a mode card flashed past. Our 18 September 2026 recording joined a room that was already filling, and its laptop was on the home article within the first frame we hold.

Step 3

Read the room line under the player list

The line under the player list names the room you are queued for. In the 18 September recording it read STANDARD · HARD · 3 MINUTES through the countdown and on into the round. That is the setting to check when you expected a different mode, difficulty or clock.

Step 4

Wait for the red countdown

A red Starting game in N line appears in the same panel and ticks down from five. Our recording shows Starting game in 5 while the laptop was still on the home article, Starting game in 3 at three and a half seconds, and Starting game in 1 at five and a half — the pair arrived at about six.

Step 5

Confirm the pair, then click your first link

The reading view splits into Start (left) and End (right), and the End side takes a few seconds longer. At nine seconds it still held a placeholder; the settled pair read Upper Canada College to Lethal Company at twelve. The article then loaded with the round clock counting down from the room's limit — Time left: 177 three seconds into a 3 MINUTES room. Your race has started at that point, whether or not you have clicked anything.

The countdown

In both recordings, only the countdown started the round

This is the part new players wait on, because there is no button to press.

In both recordings we hold, the round began when the red Starting game in N line reached its end. Neither recording shows a host pressing a start control, and the room line was already fixed while the countdown ran.

That matters for how you use the wait. The five seconds are not a loading screen: you are in the room, and the whole room starts on the same pair. Read the two articles while they are on screen — the Start title is often enough to pick a first bridge before the article body renders.

What we have not seen is the screen where those room settings are chosen, so we do not describe one. The modes themselves, and what each one changes during a round, are on the rules and controls manual.

Room choice

Which room you end up in

Seat choice decides the room as much as any menu does.

Solo practice runs from the Quiet Room desks, not from an instance you create: take a free single desk, and the practice session reports PRACTICE · NO XP while it runs (read 15 September 2026).

Racing with friends means sharing a public server and taking desks in the same room — private servers are off for this experience, so there is no join code to hand out. The friends guide covers what a group session can and cannot set up.

Server size is the creator's side of the deal: the public list showed instances at the 80-player ceiling when we last read it, and the match systems page keeps that reading with its date.

Not starting

Five checks when the round never begins

Run them in this order. The first three explain most of the waiting; the last two tell you when to stop waiting.

1. Is the desk actually free?

The interaction key seats you only at an empty desk. If the prompt does not appear, you are standing at a used one — pick another (read 15 September 2026).

2. Is an ATTENTION notice open?

On 4 October 2026 a table-opening session began with an ATTENTION notice that needed confirming. Until it is dismissed, nothing behind it moves.

3. Has it been about twenty seconds?

Opening your table… / Loading race options… held for roughly twenty seconds in that same session before the options card appeared. That length is not a failure.

4. Change desk rather than waiting

The step that worked on 4 October was leaving the stuck laptop and taking a different free desk, which joined a live room. No cause for a permanently stuck table has been published, so this page names none.

5. Narrow down what is broken

If other desks start rounds and yours does not, the problem is your table. If nothing anywhere starts, it is the session or the platform: the not-loading guide separates those cases with dated checks.

Where to report it

The creator's group description says to join it to “report bugs, and meet fellow racers”. Two players on a September tutorial video were still asking why solo runs would not start in early October, with no published cause.

Before the whistle

The laptop already tells you how to play

The home article the laptop opens on is the game's own copy, not ours.

How to play (in-game text)

  1. 1. Watch the Start and End topics reveal.
  2. 2. Select highlighted links to move between articles.
  3. 3. Use Back, Forward, or Refresh if a route stalls.
  4. 4. Reach the End first to win bonus XP

Transcribed from the laptop home article in a 18 September 2026 recording.

The same screen carries the header tabs — the game view, Leaderboards, Shop and Customize — plus the sun/moon display toggle at the top right that switches the reading view into dark mode. The tabs and the toggle are documented on the controls manual.

While you wait

Daily panels sit on the same home article

Two panels run before and after every round; both are readable while you wait for a countdown.

Daily Race lists the day's three fastest times with their age in days and prints Top three prizes finalize at the 00:00 UTC reset. The reset line is the only reset time we have seen in the game itself.

Daily Missions held three rows in that reading — Finish 5 Games, Visit 20 different articles and Play with 3 other players — each with a progress counter, a Gem or Coin icon and a Claim button on the completed one. The amounts were too small to read at the resolution we hold.

Currency handling and what each panel actually pays: the coin and Gem guide and the rewards encyclopedia.

FAQ

Starting a WikiRace round: the questions players ask

Short answers, with the reading each one stands on.

How do you start a game in WikiRace on Roblox?

Join the experience from the official listing, walk to a free desk in the lobby and use the interaction prompt to sit. The laptop opens on the game's own home article, then loads the room's options. The round does not need you to press anything after that: a red Starting game in 5 line counts down under the player list and the Start and End articles appear when it reaches zero (countdown read from player footage, 18 September 2026).

How long does it take from sitting down to racing?

Two waits stack up. On 4 October 2026 a player who opened their own table saw an ATTENTION notice that had to be confirmed, then Opening your table... Loading race options... for roughly twenty seconds before the mode card appeared. After that the red countdown runs five seconds. A faster route is to take a free desk in a room that is already being set up, which skips the table-opening wait — that is what our 18 September 2026 recording shows.

Does WikiRace have a Start button for the host?

Neither recording we hold shows a start control being pressed. In both, the round began off the red Starting game in N countdown on its own, and the room's settings line (STANDARD · HARD · 3 MINUTES in the 18 September reading) was already fixed while the countdown ran. We have not seen the screen where those settings are chosen, so we do not describe one.

Why is my table stuck on Loading race options?

We recorded that line lasting about twenty seconds before the options card appeared, so a wait of that length is normal rather than broken (4 October 2026). What is not published is a cause for tables that never leave it. If yours stays there much longer, the step that has worked in footage is leaving the laptop and taking a different free desk. The not-loading guide splits that case from an article that will not render.

Can I start a game on my own?

Solo is one of the mode entries on the room setup list, and the lobby has Quiet Room desks for it: take a free single desk with the interaction key. What you cannot do is create your own instance — the official API reports private servers disabled for this experience (createVipServersAllowed: false, read 28 October 2026), so a solo round still runs inside a public server.

Why can't I sit at the desk I want?

The interaction key only seats you at an empty desk (read from player footage, 15 September 2026). A desk someone else is using stays unavailable until that player leaves the laptop. Our footage does not cover what happens if you try a table whose round is already running, so this page makes no claim about joining a match in progress.
